Victorian Carer Card

The Victorian Carer Card recognises the significant contribution carers make to the lives of people they care for and the communities in which they live.

What is it?

The Victorian Carers Card (aka We Care Card) provides discounts and benefits to carers in acknowledgment of their contribution.

Victorian Carer Card holders can benefit from discounts at thousands of participating businesses across Victoria. These include discounts on a range of goods and services like travel and transport, eating out, shopping, getting help with your finances, or even leisure and recreation activities like seeing a movie at selected cinemas.

Victorian Carer Card holders can enjoy most (but not all) of the discounts available to Seniors Card holders. You can view all discounts and special offers on the Victorian Seniors Card and Victorian Carer Card Discount Directory.

Look out for the Victorian Carer Card ‘We Care’ sticker to find participating businesses offering discounts to Victorian Carer Card holders. The quarterly Victorian Carer Card e-News also highlights some of these offers.

Benefits of the Victorian Carer Card includes:

• discounts at thousands of participating businesses
• savings on petrol and groceries 
• cheaper public transport weekdays
• free weekend travel on public transport statewide
• free public transport during National Carers Week (held in October)
• and more.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a Victorian Carers Card you must be a resident of Victoria and either:

• the primary carer of a person with a disability, severe medical condition or mental illness, or someone who is frail aged or in need of palliative care
• a foster, kinship or respite carer.

You can confirm your eligibility by:

• providing your Centrelink Customer Reference Number (CRN) or your Department of Health & Human Services Vendor Number if you receive a carer payment or allowance
• having a medical professional verify your eligibility.

Unpaid young carers (aged under 24 years old) can now have their primary carer status confirmed by authorised professionals like:

• school teachers
• school nurses
• other school health and wellbeing staff (such as school counsellors)
• school assistant principals or principals
• registered youth workers and youth counsellors.

Foster carers, registered kinship, respite and permanent carers can use a letter from their foster or kinship agency (on official letterhead) to confirm their status.

Statutory Declarations can now be used to confirm primary carer status.
