Carers Ask an Expert

A unique online education program from Carers Victoria connecting carers with subject matter specialists who share practical information and answer questions across a broad range of topics.

Program overview

Carers Ask an Expert series is an education program covering a range of topics. Sessions are delivered as one-hour Microsoft Teams meetings. When registering, carers can submit questions to help shape the session around their needs. The presenter uses these questions to tailor the content, provide clear information about the topic and address carers’ priorities. The first half of the session introduces the topic, followed by a question-and-answer discussion.

Topics include:

  • Understanding the NDIS, presented by NDIA
  • Navigating My Aged Care, presented by DHS
  • Housing options for people with a disability, presented by SCOPE
  • Financial support for carers, presented by Financial Counselling Victoria
  • Mental health and Wellbeing Connect, presented by MHWC Western Metropolitan Hub

Engaging and partnering in education

Carers Ask an Expert is open to carers, organisations and service providers. Carers attending sessions benefit by having access to current, relevant information with the opportunity to have specific questions answered by the experts. For organisations and service providers, the sessions offer an opportunity to respond to carers’ changing needs, reach a broader audience and strengthen professional networks.

The main reason CAAE was developed was to respond to the diverse range of carer needs. The benefit of the online session is that we can reach more carers. Carers valued the opportunity to ask their individual questions directly to a service provider.

The feedback

The best thing about this session is knowing there are many others in the same situation and you are not alone.

Addressing this important and overwhelming topic was the best thing.

The presentation was clear and specific, a topic of interest for me, our family and circumstances.
