Do you facilitate a carer support group as part of your paid work, and are looking for training to enhance your existing skills?

A FREE two-session program for Employed/Paid Facilitators of Carer Support Groups by Carers Victoria.

Our Carer Support Group Facilitator Training for employed/paid facilitators provides the key information and skills required to effectively run a carer support group.

The course is delivered in 2 hour blocks over a 2 week period; it is 4 hours of training in total. The course is facilitated by qualified educators who have a strong understanding about carers and sound experience in group dynamics and facilitation skills.

Session 1 – Wednesday 6 August 2025 – 10am – 12pm

Session 2 – Wednesday 13 August 2025 – 10am – 12pm

Topics will include:

  • Considerations when establishing a carer support group – membership, structure, format, logistics
  • Exploring the purpose and benefits of a carer support group
  • Skills for facilitating a carer support group, including creating a group agreement
  • Tuckman’s model of the lifecycle of a group
  • Active listening skills
  • Exploring conflict management
  • Ongoing support for facilitators offered by Carers Victoria and access to a facilitator guide published by Carers Victoria.

Who should attend

Those who are new to the role of a carer support group facilitator and existing facilitators who wish to refresh and extend their knowledge and skills in this area.
